Keepsake

    Keepsake

A keepsake is a special object given by a person and kept in memory of something, someone or somewhere. It is usually kept for sentimental and nostalgic reasons. Maybe you want to commemorate a special time or occassion in your life and a keepsake gift would be the best choice for you or someone close. Keepsakes are things to keep forever and are useful to pass down to the next generation and the next. It can be something so simple yet effective or quite close to the heart. A keepsake or memory boxes gift would be an ideal gift for someone who wants to keep and store a memory from a period of time which has been: a celebration OR a period of grief or mourning. To help you choose your ideal keepsakes, we have some questions, like…

  • Who is it for?
  • What occassion or memory is it for? Is it to celebrate an event or to help store away painful memories in a respectful way
  • Is the keepsake something to hand down to the next generation, which would need to be strong? Or for the present day to be seen and touched by others?
  • What size? The size of the keepsake is very important. The bigger it is, the less likely the person will be able to keep it in their home or office. If it’s to hand down to the next generation, it will need to have size limits. Small enough to store in a shoe box, a jewellery box or a suitcase

 Grief and beareavement

When you or someone close to you has been through the process of grieving a loved one, it can be hard to let go. You may feel guilty saying goodbye, you feel as though they are forgotten by those around you and it is not a happy place. You may feel surrounded by others who do not understand and do not care. To help this process, put your feelings in a keepsake box or make a display frame in your house full of photos and old memorabilia. When you have put your most precious items into your keepsake box or memory box then you can appreciate the items a little better with more respect and are then able to share the joy of memories with others instead of routing around the house or attic for mixed objects dotted here and there. The journey of this process of choosing what to keep and add to your keepsake boxes is a form of therapy and will take you through what is important in life and in the after life too. After organising the priorities you will feel a lift and will feel like you can take one more step forward in your journey on, knowing you have done your bit to help the memories live on and on and on…

Benefits of a memory or keepsake box

A memory box can be a personalized gift or not. You are able to add whatever you want which reminds you of good times with that person or pet. Add cards, photos, a bracelet or neck chain they once used. Add a few quotes on heart shaped card, add a squirt of their favourite perfume they used to wear. Whater you add into the box it must help give closure. If you come across anything so painful, leave that out. It will only cause more and more sorrow. They would wish for comfort, closure and for you to move on and live your life for them. Do things they would love you to do and to smile when remembering them. Making memory boxes is part of what you need to do to get through to that comfort zone. To know they are not forgotten and to know they are always there when you need them. All you have to do is open that box and smile about all the happy things they left behind.

Keepsake jewellery made from ashes

Now it is possible to purchase a necklace made from ashes of a loved one, be it a friend, family member or even a pet. To be able to wear them close to your heart is something very special. Buying jewellery to share with other family members takes away the issue of who gets to keep the ashes.
